The wooden glass pane in the middle formed part of an ante-porta - a secondary door - recycled from the wood of a dismantled 17th century galley. The recycling of wood from obsolete or refurbished maritime vessels was common among harbour communities. While most of it ended as works of art in churches, some ended in the houses of the elite.
