The walls of the smaller room show a change in height. The dark-reddish pigment on the stone surface is indicative of treatments given to the stone surface prior and after the turn of the 16th century. The reddish pigment is produced by a mixture of pomegranate, used to protect the stone and as a symbol of fertility and life. After 1492 the importation of the prickly pear tree to the central Mediterranean, changed the major component of stone sealers to the prickly pear leaf which does not change the colour of the stone.
